Some Hope

I am not a tree that bows and breaks in the ice and wind. It is easy to say what I am not. I must admit that there are some days when I can’t exactly pinpoint what I am.

Some days it is the birds that cheer me up and inform me. On those days when I am feeling grouchy and like my heart doesn’t seem to fill up, especially on these days when ice is everywhere, it’s the birds that cheer me up. I refill their water and break the ice that forms, sometimes a few times a day. I refill their little feeder too.

Why? It’s because I love the way they flit to the feeder and how they seem delighted that the water is there and liquid. They don’t need to thank me (they aren’t even thinking in those terms), they bring me joy in their aliveness.

It is important for me, in everything that is going on, everything that is always going on, and with everything that I want to do, not to lose sight or feeling of my aliveness. That is my anchor in this world and non-negotiable if we are to remain here.

May we find equanimity and joy in our humanity. May we all succeed together. May we be guided by ancient wisdom and learn to step in peace.

With love and some hope,

Laura
